Last year we reviewed Ring Pro doorbell and compared it to other competitions and ultimately it was the top choice, but this won’t go forever. Technology improve every year and new products will come out. And Ring company didn’t just stay behind and they were working on the next generation Ring Video Doorbell Elite.
I am still waiting to review new doorbell, but for now I will show what’s differences between pro and elite models and should you wait for elite model or should just buy pro version.
Ring Doorbell Elite Review
Design
Firstly when you take a look on design you will see right away that it has flush-mounted finish which is big pros for home owners who already have junction box installed. It helps to keep doorbell from stealing (even Ring gives theft protection warranty) and brings modern stealthy look.
The junction box mounting size is: 2.75″ in width, 2.17″ in depth and 4.7″ in height.
Another big plus that now you don’t need 16-24VAC transformer and you can just power your doorbell with only Ethernet cable. I think it’s big plus to have Ethernet port because now you don’t need to depend on WiFi connection.
Like with pro version Ring included four interchangeable faceplates to match the finish outside your home.
Also it come with standard junction box, 30 feet Ethernet cable, of course mounting hardware, their branded screwdriver and user manual.
Video Quality
I only can judge for now by the specs and the camera looks exactly the same like they included in pro version. It’s 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels) at 30 frames per seconds. And camera also has exactly the field views 160 and 90 degrees.
Sound Quality
Ring said the microphone and speaker will have echo cancellation. I can’t tell if the speaker better or worse yet, but as soon as I get doorbell for testing I will update the article. I am not sure how good this echo cancellation will work, but I am pretty excited to test it out and compare it.
Pros & Cons
- Better motion detection compared to pro model.
- Ability to fit into standard home junction box.
- Power up with just over Ethernet cable.
- Stealthy look
- Required to have junction box at your home or you will need to add one.
- Video quality didn’t change compare to pro model
Conclusion
For now my Ring Doorbell Elite review based on current specs released by the company and compare ring doorbells with previous model, but I will update the review as soon as I get doorbell in my hand for review.
If you are looking for smart doorbell without wifi and have junction box hole near your front door and looking to connect your doorbell with Ethernet cable then you should definitely wait for the Ring Elite model otherwise there is no more benefits to pay double the price and instead just get Ring Pro model which is still my main choice.
